100% ELECTRIC NISSAN LEAF - 0% EMMISSIONS

In a historic moment for Nissan and zero emission vehicles, the 100% electric Nissan LEAF has been awarded 2011 European Car of the Year.

The Car - The Nissan Leaf is said to be practical and powerful even when full with five passengers the Leaf’s powerful electric motor delivers 100% torque instantly.

Vision - The Leaf comes with no exhaust which means 0 emissions. Add in batteries and a charging infrastructure and say hello to a zero emissions future!

No petrol = No Tank

The Nissan Leaf runs on Battery power. You simply plug-in and charge.

Price - As of right now the Leaf has not been price stamped yet, however Nissan is giving buyers their word that they are targeting the range of “other typical family Sedans”. Either way the little buggy sure is a hot step in the right direction, just suprised it took until 2011 for someone to release the first commercial all electric car.

A well equipped C-class vehicle runs in the range £18,000 - £24,000 range, without the £5000 tax credit the car will be expected to enjoy. If they are factoring that in, consider £23,000 - £29,000.

Now of course it isn’t likely that one will be able to just go out and buy a LEAF in 2011 for that price. The most expensive part of the car is its 24 kWh lithium ion battery. Though Nissan is jointly manufacturing the battery with its partner NEC, costs of production for these ground breaking laminate cells are currently quite considerable.
