Lives Of The Artists II: Follow Me Down

It’s been in production for months, seen 4 men journey to the ends of the earth, and represents the second feature-length chapter in the meandering, cinematic adventure into the realm of personal obsession and heroic artistic pursuit. Yes, Lives Of The Artists: Follow Me Down is here, and we’ve got the never-before-seen trailer for your eyes only.

Featuring James Lavelle and Unkle, as well as legendary freeriders Jeremy Jones and Xavier De Le Rue (star of the first film), Follow Me Down explores a theme that anyone driven by some immeasurable passion will recognise — that there are no easy rides in life.

They travel to Antarctica with two riders, spurning the usual ‘heli-drop and ride’, big mountain approach in search of more visceral rewards, the kind that Jeremy and Xavier seek by scaling each near-vertical face on foot. We join Unkle on tour in Tokyo, Moscow, St. Petersburg and London, immersing ourselves along the way in the uncompromising sounds and beliefs of a pioneering musical outfit that has strived to push the boundaries of artistic expression while retaining total integrity for close to 20 years.

Designer t-shirts! Wear your art on your sleeve

Check out these impressive designer t-shirts from a range of different artists.

Original t-shirt designs catch my eye more than most graphic art that I see. Mainly because I can wear it. Functional art, oh yeah! But also due to the nature of print design. It’s an underrated source of artistic expression, probably due to it’s small scale presentation.

Some amazing examples of designer t-shirts

Daft Punk - Tron soundtrack

There's being excited about a forthcoming record, then there's being so excited that you start speculating wildly about what it might contain, then there's being so excited you come over all Mike Yarwood and start doing impersonations. You can see where the expectation comes from, though. For one thing, Daft Punk might have been put on Earth specifically in order to record a soundtrack for a sequel to Tron: their 80s retro-futurist aesthetic is clearly indebted to the original, which variously features primitive electronic graphics, the soft rock of Journey, a plot in which a programmer becomes part of a neon-glowing computer mainframe after being shot with a laser, and the Scarecrow from Scarecrow and Mrs King. It occasionally seems less like a film that actually got made than a dream Thomas Bangalter might once have had.

Have a sneaky listen here.

I have no doubt it will work brilliantly in the cinema, allied to Tron: Legacy's 3D visuals. If it does, it wouldn't be the first Daft Punk album to be reconsidered over time: people certainly revised their opinion of Human After All after seeing its tracks performed live. For now, however, it's hard not to feel a bit disappointed. As is so often the case with sci-fi, the future hasn't turned out quite as you might have hoped.

How to make the perfect Vodka jelly

Recipe for the perfect vodka jelly.

Vodka Jelly is not hard to make, it's just a case of getting your quantities right! If you don't, it just won't set.

Any jelly mix will do fine, strawberry and raspberry are obvious favourites. Any brand of Vodka will also do just fine.

Basically you mix the jelly as you would normally, only using 80% of the recommended liquid. Substitute 40% of the liquid for vodka, and the remaining 40% hot water, and mix until all jelly has melted away. Pour into a container and allow to set in the fridge. It depends on your fridge, but a few hours should be fine - but make well in advance.

If you want to really impress your guests, make a vodka jelly baby using Spinning Hat's new Jelly baby mold. You can buy the jelly baby mold here.

Next is the fun part....drinking it. Well it's not so much drinking it as letting it slide down your throat. Don't worry you won't taste the vodka in it, the jelly is nice though. Don't eat too much, remember how much vodka is in it.

Rihanna - S&M contraversy

Once upon a time when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth, recording artists attempted to boost sales by actually recording a decent record. Today? Not so much.

Somewhere Kanye West is fuming over Rihanna's recently released video 'S&M' (gee I wonder what it's about?), which has already been banned in 11 countries. Its a video chock full of Rihanna, pleather, chains, blow up dolls, licking, and a banana. Forget talent -- the key to commercial success is apparently pleather, and lots of it.

Rihanna is just the latest in a cluster of black women who apparently have thrown up the deuce to engaging in artistry or perfecting their stage presence in their careers. Now they rely exclusively on courting controversy to get attention... and Autotune. So sad that they think so little of their "talent."

Top 5 internet games

Bored at work? All your friends busy? Nothing on TV? Spinning Hat is here to save the day yet again.

Below is a list of links to some of the best internet games in human history. Go on take a break.

1. Filler has got to be one of my all time favorite time wasters. The goal of the game is simple, you need to click to create filler balls so you can fill up 2/3 of the screen before you can move on to the next level. Avoid the bouncy balls because they will pop any filler balls that you're filling up.

2. Totem Destroyer is a challenging and fun time waster that uses physics as a big part of its game play.

3. Magic Pen is a very fun time waster for adults that might remind you of your childhood days because your weapon of choice is a crayon. With your crayon you'll need to draw lines and circles on the screen to help your ball touch all the flags on the level.

4. Lunchtimers is a time waster where you're given a set of letters that look like a throwback to those magnetic alphabet letters you use to play with on mom's fridge.

5. The Falling Sand Game is a deceptively simple looking time waster. You have sand, water, salt and oil falling from the sky and you get to build walls, start fires and add plant material to see how everything interacts with each other.

Subliminal Advertising

Scary examples of subliminal messages in TV commercials, radio adverts and print.

Subliminal perception is a deliberate process created by communication technicians, whereby you receive and respond to information and instructions without being aware of it. Messages in the form of printed words, pictures or voices presented either very rapidly or very obscurely bypass your conscious awareness. Anything consciously perceived can be evaluated, criticized, discussed, argued, and possibly rejected. Anything programmed subliminally to your subconsciousness meets no resistance. This subliminal information is stored in your brain and capable of influencing your judgment, behavior and attitudes.

The coolest Big Cartel stores

Big Cartel offers an excellent resource for indie t-shirt lines looking for a quick and easy social online store. However there are well over 4,000 shops at Big Cartel and we wanted to share some of our favourites.

Dekay Clothing

The store is just as dark as the characters and themes being printed on the shirts.

Word Apparel!

There are certain features on this one worth noting like the torn edges and the illusion of depth from the top layer to the background. The layout flows well.

I Came From Nothing

I guess those tentacles on the sides “Came From Nothing” because I don’t recognize them from anything I’ve ever seen. Whatever they are, they perfectly match with the style of design on the shirts.

Nano engineered gadgets

Nanotechnology, the study of the controlling of matter on an atomic and molecular scale, has brought about a revolution in the field of science and technology, for it has the potential to create many new materials and devices with a vast range of applications, such as in medicine, electronics and energy production. Designers have taken a leaf from nanotech and have created gadgets that are worth appreciation, and here we have listed a few for your delight.

Sense

Envisioning a future where you could smell, touch and taste anything before buying or playing with it, CD&I Associates is set to evolve your net surfing and shopping habits or trends, allowing technology to build new interactive media which can be accessed anywhere, anytime. Designed as a part of “La Fin Du Design” Exhibition, the “Sense” is wireless device that allows consumers to have a closer approach with their favorite web sites, movies and games, creating a strong sensitive and more emotional connection between users and experiences.

Electrolux Duo infuser

Introducing the new generation of tea infusers, Mexican designer Emma Moreno has come up with an innovative infuser entitled the “Duo” that uses nanotechnology for heating, giving an entirely new meaning to the traditional way of making tea. The new infuser is simple to use, all you need to do is fill it up, turn it on and choose the heating level, and then put it into your cup where it heats up as soon as it gets in touch with hot water.

AVA Bluetooth touch-phone

Taking the most out of a gadget used in day-to-day life, Uzbek designer Donnie Mamanov has come up with an innovative touch-phone that features dynamic nano technology to provide a functional platform to next-gen users. Featuring a semi rounded shape with glossy metallic finish, the concept phone measures 160mm in length and 60mm in width, with only 7mm thickness, presenting a slim and sleek device for the geeks.

Self-Energy Converting Sunglasses

Designed by Hyun-Joong Kim and Kwang-Seok Jeong, the SIG or ‘Self-Energy Converting Sunglasses’ is the latest innovative device for powering your gadgets. The multifunctional sunglasses come with dye solar cells, used with nanotechnology, lenses that turns sun rays into electrical energy, which is good enough to power all sort of small gadgets.

Morph

Morph is a concept that demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes. So basically you can change it in to a circle, a sphere and maybe even a cone to put your ice cream in!

RFID Tags

Researchers from Sunchon National University in Suncheon, South Korea, and Rice University in Houston have built a radio frequency identification tag that can be printed directly onto cereal boxes and potato chip bags. The tag uses ink laced with carbon nanotubes to print electronics on paper or plastic that could instantly transmit information about a cart full of groceries.

Let us know of any other amazing possibilities nano design!
