Puzzling Escher inspired rotterdam house renovation

Ceilings that look like floors, staircases that lead to nowhere, and impossible angles and paths that both ascend and descend at the same time are all hallmarks of famed artist MC Escher's architectural drawings - but who knew you could see them in real life? You can if you check out Studio Rolf.fr's intriguing Rotterdam townhouse renovation. All of the surfaces in the house blend together in a way that makes it difficult to discern which way is up and which way is down! Rolf had help of Zecc Architects in this crazy renovation, and the result is what they're calling the "Black Pearl".



Rolf of Studio Rolf.fr bought this 100 year old rowhouse in Amsterdam and renovated it to evoke a memory of MC Escher's architectural landscapes.

Street trials riding

Top free things to do in London

The best free attractions around the city of London.


@ Tate modern

1. Tate Modern: Tate Modern is an exceptional national art gallery housing some of the finest artworks in the world, focusing on contemporary art.

2. Museums: All of London's major museums are free. My favorites are the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum and as they located next to each other, it works out well to see them both in a day.

3. South Bank: So many London landmarks can be seen along this stretch of the River Thames including The London Eye and Tate Modern.

4. Trafalgar Square: Trafalgar Square is one of Britain's greatest visitor attractions and was designed by John Nash in the 1820s and constructed in the 1830s. This iconic square has many sights to see including Nelson's Column and the National Gallery. It is both a tourist attraction and the main focus for political demonstrations.

5. Street Performers: The West Piazza of Covent Garden Market has street performers to entertain you every afternoon. Good acts can draw huge crowds and the performers love to get audience members to help them with their act. All performers are licensed and have passed an audition to perform here.

6. Street Markets: London is well-known for its popular street markets. The most popular are Camden Market and Portobello Market, following closely by Greenwich Market.

7. Free Music: Southbank Centre has lots of free music and other events and there's Free foyer concerts at the National Theatre, also on the South Bank.

Blink enjoyed reading festival so much they're coming back for more. The price of Reading tickets is day light robbery, and I presumed Blink's tour would follow suite. As always Spinning Hat have found some sweet news for you pop punk fans. You can get early bird tickets this november for half the price so stock up while you can before over-priced ticket agents turn you up side down and take every last penny.

There's only one reason why you should watch The X Factor this year and it's Wagner. Wagner is magnificent and He's the saving grace of the entire operation.

With the final Harry potter on the way out, the cast are going to be out of a job. So I borrowed mystic megs crystal ball to see what their future holds and this is what I found...

Hargrid wins 'world's strongest man' 3 years running and becomes the ultimate fighting champion. Dobby finds it hard to find other film work, breifly having jobs as a Gollum and a yoda look a like. After failing in a few hollywood films Harry becomes captain in a muggle quiditch team.

Not kidding, there is actaually a real quiditch game resembling the Harry Potter sport. In the United States, teams from more than 200 colleges are affiliated with the International Quidditch Association and play tournaments. No brooms they just run around with capes on.

5 eco concepts

Swirl is a conceptual washing machine that has been designed to be used in places where water isn’t easily accessible. This zero-electricity washing machine features a swirled sphere-shaped basket and a lid. When doing laundry, the user can stuff the sphere with clothes and roll the Swirl to a water source to fill it. Once filled with water and clothes, the washing machine can be rolled back, in a process to rotate the drum to wash clothes. When not being used, the Swirl can be used as a clothes basket or a water barrel.

This week we love... South Park!

Enchanted Palace

Every now and again you get sent a press release for something that actually sounds completely brilliant. This is definitely one of those occasions.


There's quite a lot going on, but we'll keep it brief. In short Kensginton Palace is being transformed into the Enchanted Palace by acclaimed theatre company WILDWORKS in collaboration with a host of big name fashion designers like Vivienne Westwood, William Tempest and Stephen Jones.

A stunning app that renders Patrick Moore obsolete, by using your phone's orientation tools to give you an accurate representation of the stars and planets on your screen. Point phone at sky, then learn what constellations are visible and if that's a UFO or just Venus. Even works indoors, if you're not keen on getting cold.
